ZAMBOANGA CITY - President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has named Maj. Gen. Steve Crespillo as the new commander of the Western Mindanao Command, replacing Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, now the Philippine Army chief.
Crespilllo is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Class of 1990 and currently Galido's vice commander. He was the former commander of the 501st Infantry Brigade who led troops in fighting the communist rebel group New People's Army in Apayao and Cagayan provinces.He was also designated as Chief of Staff and Assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retiree Affairs of the 6th Infantry Division, and acting commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade and previously served the as chief of the Unified Command Staff in Western Mindanao Command, overseeing operations in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Muslim autonomous region.
