CEBU - Gov. Gwen Garcia directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office to finish the concreting of the unpaved section — over 100 meters — of the Carcar diversion road that will be used for the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.
The order came following a recent meeting with DPWH officials and Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas which discussed ways to solve the traffic congestion along the city center. The diversion road, which leads to the Carcar City Sports Complex, will be used as a street dancing route for the Pasigarbo contingents on August 27.
In the same meeting, Garcia barred vehicles crossing the national highway in Carcar to manage the congestion along the area. The city center has seen a growing congestion along the highway not only because of ongoing road projects by DPWH but also because of cars crossing from the adjoining streets.
She also ordered the city’s traffic team to implement the “turn right only” rule along the highway, the very same rule implemented in Consolacion. Motorists coming from Cebu City will also no longer be allowed to turn left from the highway to the diversion road leading to the City Hall. Motorists taking the diversion road will have to use a “temporary rotunda” the city will build near the Gaisano Grand crossing.
Barcenas told SugboNews that they will immediately notify their traffic enforcers on this rule, which will formally take into effect upon the issuance of a memorandum by the governor. He said they will do a testing on this immediately. (Carlo Lorenciana)
