Pagadian City village chieftain gunned down

PAGADIAN CITY -  A lone gunman killed a newly elected village chieftain in an attack in Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Surprovince in southern Philippines, police said Thursday.

Lt. Col. Helen Galvez, a spokeswoman for the regional police, said the shooting occurred in the village of Lapedian at around 6:38 p.m and killed Rodolfo Dacol. She said Dacol was driving his motorcycle and about to park when the gunman shot him at close range.

"Investigation disclosed that the victim was onboard his tri-wheeler bao-
bao. Upon reaching a certain area, an unidentified male person wearing red t-shirt
and short pants suddenly shot the victim with the use of a short firearm open fired and hitting Dacol on the left lower quadrant and the bullet exited at his right posterior chest. The victim was declared dead on arrival," Galvez said.

Police investigators recovered from the crime scene a cartridge case of caliber .45 and one fired bullet of same caliber. She said police were investigating the motive of the murder. 

Gun attacks are not uncommon in Pagadian City where hired killers are actively operating. (Mindanao Examiner)
