SULU – Barely a week after the Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan polls, security officials and other stakeholders continue to praise the peaceful elections in the southern Muslim province of Sulu.
Military and police authorities said Sulu has recorded “zero election-related violent incidents” during the October 30 elections.
“The just concluded BSKE in the province of Sulu is generally
peaceful. This is the second time that the Sulu has recorded a zero
election-related violent incidents, and this is attributed to the effective
collaboration of all partner stakeholders such as the Commission on Elections, Sulu
Police Provincial Office, Philippine Coast Guard, and the cooperation of the
people in the communities of Sulu,” said Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, commander
of the 11th Infantry Division and currently commander of the Joint Task Force
(JTF) Orion.
Patrimonio said the JTF Orion established its Election Monitoring Center in the province to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of elections from preparation until the canvassing of votes. Prior to the conduct of the elections, the Sulu Joint Monitoring Committee visited different polling centers including the island municipalities in Sulu to ensure the success of the election.
He also lauded members of the security forces for their
sacrifices and dedication in ensuring the peaceful conduct of elections. “I
commend the untiring efforts of our soldiers, COMELEC officials, other law
enforcement agencies, and more importantly the cooperation of the people of
Sulu in ensuring a smooth, fair and orderly BSKE 2023. Rest assured that your
JTF Orion will remain committed to sustaining the peace that we have achieved,”
he said. (Mindanao Examiner)
