Detained former Marawi mayor accused of rebellion, faces more charges

COTABATO CITY – Detained former Marawi City Mayor Fahad Salic, accused of supporting local ISIS fighters in southern Philippines, is facing more criminal charges after police seized suspected crystal meth and an automatic rifle, including grenades and ammunition from his house in Cagayan de Oro City, officials said Friday.
Officials said Salic was present when policemen and anti-narcotics agents, along with village officials who served as witnesses, searched his house and recovered at least 10 packets of meth, four M203 grenades, one M16 rifle and 5 cell phones.
Salic was arrested on June 7 on suspicion he was financing or supporting the Maute group which is still fighting security forces since May 23 after they attacked the city in an effort to put up a caliphate in the restive region.
Authorities also arrested Cayamora Maute, the clan’s patriarch while attempting to enter Davao City along with his wife and daughter, and another man in a rented van. And an engineer, Nasser Dilangalen, who works for the Cotabato City government after authorities accused him of being a member of the Maute group. (Moh Saaduddin and Rhoderick BeƱez)
