CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Government troops captured a female communist rebel wounded in a clash in Bukidnon province in southern Philippines, officials said Monday.
Officials said the 22-year Susan Guaynon is also 5-months pregnant and was immediately brought to hospital by soldiers. She was among dozens of New People’s Army rebels who fought soldiers in the village of Kalabugao in the town of Impasugong over the weekend.
Her companions managed to escape after fighting soldiers from the 8th Infantry Division. Troops also recovered two AK-47 assault rifles, one AR-18 automatic rifle, one Carbine rifle, one M4 automatic rifle, and one air gun, including 30 backpacks containing subversive documents and personal belongings.
Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Illana, of the 8th Infantry Battalion, said they will inform Guaynon’s family about her capture and condition. He said there was no report of casualties from their side.
The NPA has been fighting for a separate state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
