CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Unidentified gunmen ambushed Friday a group of anti-narcotics agents and killed 5 of them in the troubled province of Lanao del Sur in southern Philippines, reports said.
Reports said two others were wounded in the attack near Marawi City after attending to suspected drug pushers who surrendered in Tagoloan town.
The victims were traveling in a van when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle with automatic weapons and instantly killing 4 agents.
One anti-narcotic agent died in the hospital while another member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and one police personnel were injured in the daring ambush and were rushed to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack and authorities were still investigating the motive of the killings. The provinces of Lanao del Sur and neighboring Maguindanao are known sources of illegal drugs or methamphetamine hydrochloride, also called shabu, in the troubled region. (Mindanao Examiner)
