CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A policeman wanted by
authorities for shooting his superior was killed in a gunfight Sunday in southern
Philippines, officials said.
Officials said Patrolman Jhon Paul Gerida was
slain in a shootout with policemen sent to arrest him.

Gerida was tracked down in the village of
Consuelo in Agusan del Sur province after he went into hiding after shooting
Lt. Col. Rex Lomente in
the head at the headquarters of the Provincial Mobile Force Company in Bunawan
town.
“(Police
forces) conducted hot pursuit operation against the suspect at the aforesaid
place, the suspect fired his firearm towards the operating troops prompting the troops
to retaliate against the suspect which resulted to his death,” a police report
said.
It was unclear what motivated Gerida to shoot
his commander, but the victim summoned the policeman in his office prior to the
