Zamboanga bags more gov’t awards

THE LOCAL government of Zamboanga City has bagged 3 prestigious government awards for its outstanding performances in labor, disaster preparedness, and revenue collection.

The Bureau of Local Government Finance under the Department of Finance has recognized the efforts of Mayor Beng Climaco and City Treasurer Romelita Candido for generating the highest absolute amount from Real Property Tax, Business Tax, Fees and Charges and Receipts from Economic Enterprise.

It said the Zamboanga City government’s collection of taxes contributed to about 30.45% of the total local revenue of Region 9 (Western Mindanao) in 2018. The local government was also recognized for its outstanding performance ratings in the collection of Business Tax at 104.20% and the collection of various fees and charges at 112.67% for the 1st Class City Category in the region.

In disaster preparedness, Zamboanga City was conferred the Top 1 Performing City award for the 2019 Regional Disaster Preparedness Index by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Climaco together with Elmeir Apolinario, of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, received awards recently.

The Zamboanga City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) was likewise recognized as the “Most Outstanding PESO,” “Most Outstanding Job Implementer”and“Most Outstanding SPES Implementer” by the Department of Labor and Employment.

SPES is the abbreviation for Special Program for the Employment of Students.

Climaco said the city government’s commitment to helping young people gain job experience with the SPES, noting that for last year’s second SPES batch, the local government shouldered 100% of the SPES salaries. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
