CITY HALL vowed to crack down on the illegal collection of parking fees after the local government strictly implemented President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to clear all public roads of obstructions.
And with Duterte’s order, the City Treasurer’s Office has revoked and stopped the services of so-called parking aides who were collecting payments to vehicles parked on public roads in downtown Zamboanga.
City Treasurer Romelita Candido said the local government has not authorized anybody to collect parking fees from any designated parking areas, except at Paseo del Mar, Plaza del Pilar, Jardin Park in Pasonanca, the Integrated Bus Terminal in Divisoria, and at the main public market.
She said there were reports that unscrupulous people are still collecting parking fees in downtown area. “Never did we allow or sanction anybody to collect parking fees. The city government or the City Treasurer’s Office for that matter has not sanctioned the collection of any parking fees, therefore it is illegal,” Candido said.
“The services of parking aides have not been renewed by the city government since September this year as per advice of the City Legal Office, pursuant to President Duterte’s order to clear all roads of any obstructions, the one-side-street parking included,” she added.
Because of this, Assistant City Administrator Cesar Raz has vowed to crack down on the illegal collection of parking fees and said he will coordinate with the police to stop this malpractice by unauthorized parking aides. (Zamboanga Post)
