Another returning OFW in SoCot positive for Covid-19

ANOTHER RETURNING   overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in South Cotabato province has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. said Wednesday.

Tamayo said the latest patient is a 58-year-old man from Tupi town who has been under isolation since arriving from Manila last June 13.

He said the patient was confirmed positive of the disease on Tuesday based on the results of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test released by the Dr. Arturo P. Pingoy Medical Center in Koronadal City.

A situation report issued on Tuesday night by the Department of Health 12 (Soccsksargen) said the OFW, the 42nd of the 43 confirmed cases in the region, is in stable condition.

The patient, who was under quarantine at the designated municipal isolation facility, is Tupi’s third confirmed Covid-19 case in two days.

Two returning residents, a 45-year-old seafarer and a 35-year-old locally stranded individual, (LSI) tested positive for the disease on Monday.

Tamayo earlier assured that all Covid-19 patients in the province, which has increased to 12, eight of whom are classified as active, were properly isolated upon arrival.

“All these patients remain isolated and none of them had contact with anyone in our communities,” he said, adding that the province would continue to receive returning residents.

Tamayo extended the implementation of the modified general community quarantine until June 30 effective Tuesday.

Some 1,400 LSIs and OFWs have returned to parts of the province as of Tuesday and the provincial government expects about 1,000 more in the coming days.

He added that they were all subjected to proper health screening, rapid diagnostic tests, and quarantine upon arrival. (By Richelyn Gubalani)
