ZAMBOANGA CITY - Police shot dead Monday afternoon four suspicious gunmen who turned out to be soldiers in the southern Philipine province of Sulu, reports said.
It said the police received reports that gunmen were spotted in a vehicle parked near the municipal police headquarters in Jolo.
Policemen opened fire on the vehicle after the men allegedly tried to pull out their guns. The slain men were all in civilian clothes and turned out to be members of the Philippine Army's Intelligence Service Unit.
Among those killed were two officers with the rank of major and captain. And the two others were an army sergeant and a corporal. It was not immediately known whether the four soldiers were on a clandestine mission.
The 11th Infantry Division and the local police did not issue any statement. The Western Mindanao Command also has not released a report of the shooting. (Zamboanga Post)
