THE NUMBER of police officers infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has reached 440.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service said as of Wednesday night, 258 patients have recovered while the death toll has increased to seven with the passing of two police officers assigned in Cebu City.
The PNP Health Service identified the latest fatalities as Patient 390 (PNP-390), a 46-year-old policeman, and Patient 400 (PNP-400), a 29-year-old policeman.
PNP-390 was admitted to a hospital on June 4 due to fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, dizziness, and nausea. He had undergone reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing and the results came out on June 10, showing he was positive. He died on June 14.
Meanwhile, PNP-400 was admitted to a hospital on June 7 due to a vehicular accident. On June 8, he underwent RT-PCR testing and the results released on June 10 showed he was positive. He also died on June 14.
PNP Chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa, extended his condolences and assured the families of both police officers of full financial support and social benefits.
The PNP is monitoring 699 probable cases and 874 suspect cases, most of them from the National Capital Region and Central Visayas.(By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
