ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police are holding a teenager who was
arrested in a sting operation that yielded over a kilo of crystal meth in
Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Sunday.
Mayor Beng Climaco said the teener was nabbed in a joint
operation by the Police Station 10 under Captain Albin Cabayacruz and
members of the Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the village of
Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon.
Climaco lauded the arrest of the drug dealer and praised
those involved in the operation and she congratulated them for a “job well done.”
“Thank you for your hard work and
commitment to President Duterte's unrelenting anti-drug war,” she told PDEA and
the police forces.
PDEA said the seized meth is worth over P7 million and the
arrested drug dealer is a “high value target.” The suspect did not give any
statement.
Regional police chief, Brigadier General Jesus Cambay, Jr
also witnessed the inventory of the confiscated meth, including a tea pack which
PDEA said was marked with Chinese characters.
Cambay said the suspect – a Grade 6 student, is a native of
Laminusa Island off Sulu, one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous
region.
“The arrested drug suspect is
presently under the custody of Zamboanga City Police Station - 10 for the appropriate
filing of a criminal case against him while all recovered items will be brought
to Zamboanga City Crime Lab Ofice for examination,” he said.
Cambay also commended Cabayacruz
and members of the PDEA regional office. “Despite of the present public health
crisis, the unwavering effort of the Zamboanga City Police and PDEA to further
their campaign against illegal drugs in Zamboanga City is truly commendable,”
he said.
The arrest came days after Philippine
National Police Chief, General Archie Francisco Gamboa ordered an intensified campaign against illegal drugs and to
target drug lords across the country.
He said
President Rodrigo Duterte gave out the order for the intensified campaign. “I also echoed the guidance of President Rodrigo
Duterte for PNP units to seize every opportunity to be on the offensive against
illegal drugs. An all-out offensive puts the lives of our PNP personnel at risk
so we must exercise all possible precautions to ensure that they are safe and
that no lives are lost,” he said.
Gamboa’s orders include operations against
high-value targets belonging to the Top 10 most wanted drug personalities in
every jurisdiction. (Zamboanga Post)
