More decent, organized vending stalls installed in Manila

NEW VENDING  stalls have been placed in different areas in Manila where illegal street vendors used to sell various products.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso said initially the new stalls were placed along Antonio Villegas Street, just beside the Manila City Hall.
Domagoso said these were given to actual vendors in the area for free unlike in the previous administration where tents for vendors were sold at PHP15,000 each.
The stall is made of metal which may be closed and has electricity with a submeter.
Domagoso said this is to upgrade street vending and make it more decent and dignified.
Gumana na po. Masayang masaya po ako na na upgrade natin ang pagtitinda sa kalye. Sinabi ko po na may plano tayo sa kanila, sinimulan na po natin dito sa may city hall (it is now operational and I am very happy that we have upgraded street vending. I promised them before that I have a plan for them, and we have started it right here, beside the city hall),” he said in a virtual briefing Wednesday.
Similar vending stalls will also be installed in other areas of Manila where vendors usually sell their products and where foot traffic is high.
He said the next area where the stalls will be installed is along Ylaya Street in Divisoria.
"Sa Ylaya nilalatag na. May espasyo, well-planned tapos bawal sa bangketa para yung mga mga may-ari ng building, makapag negosyo din, at yung bangketa malakaran ng tao, yung gitna madadaanan ng sasakyan at malalakaran din ng tao. Sa gabi ibaba nyo lang 'yan, bakal 'yan, mabigat, di safe lahat ng produkto nyo at di na kinakabahan pag umuulan (stalls along Ylaya are now being installed with spaces. They are well-planned and not placed on the sidewalks so that building owners may also do their business, and people can walk on the sidewalks and in the main road, vehicles can also pass. This may be closed in the evening so your products are safe, even when it rains)," Domagoso said.
Domagoso clarified that there are areas though, which he calls “non-negotiable”, where vendors will not be allowed, especially in the main roads.
These include Recto Avenue, Soler Street, Juan Luna Avenue, Carriedo, Taft Avenue, Avenida, and Raon Street, which he wants to be clear of vendors so vehicles can pass smoothly and traffic congestion will be lessened.
Domagoso said vendor beneficiaries of these stalls will just need to pay a very minimal tax fee to the city government, as he wants them to be responsible and pay their taxes properly.
Pag kayo ay inayos namin, sisiguraduhin naming wala kayong tosgas (gastos), ang tosgas nyo lang yung obligasyon nyo sa pamahalaan, yung kayo ay turuan paano maging bahagi ng pagbabayd ng buwis nang tama, etneb (bente)sa umaga, etneb sa hapon, di kuwarenta, times 30 days, PHP1,200, me resibo ka ng gobyerno at me dignidad ka na sa pagtitinda, (if we organize things, you are assured that you will not pay for it. Your only expenses are your obligation to the government. We are teaching you to pay the correct taxes. You pay PHP20 in the morning and another PHP20 in the evening. That’s PHP40 per day and PHP1,200 per month. You will be given a receipt and you will earn dignity),” Domagoso said.
He added that this will also eliminate the city of those illegally collecting money from the vendors.
"Wag nyong bababuyin (yung lugar), wag nyo gawing dugyot sa inyo na eh, itinaas na yung kalidad ng pagtitinda nyo sa kalye, ingatan nyo (just maintain the cleanliness. We have upgraded the quality of street selling, take care of it)," he added. (
