THE DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) 12 (Soccsksargen) recorded on Tuesday night seven more confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Sarangani and South Cotabato provinces.
In a situation report, the regional health office said the additional cases were six returning locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Maasim town in Sarangani and one from Tboli town in South Cotabato, all with travel history to Metro Manila.
It said the patients, who turned out positive in their confirmatory reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests, were all in “stable condition.”
Dr. Johnnace Ariane Magan, Maasim health officer, said Wednesday five of the LSIs were male construction workers aged 18, 35, 36, 45, and 46 years, while one was a 37-year-old female overseas work applicant.
Magan said the construction workers had worked in Taguig City while the job applicant stayed for some time in Pasay City.
They arrived last June 29 aboard the same commercial flight from Manila via the city international airport, she said.
Magan said the LSIs were fetched at the airport by local government personnel and directly brought to the designated isolation facilities to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
She said they underwent rapid antibody screening after seven days in isolation and were subjected to swab collection last Saturday for the confirmatory RT-PCR testing, which eventually came out positive for Covid-19.
“They are in stable condition and (with) no symptoms related to Covid-19 observed,” she said in a statement.
Magan assured that the patients remain isolated and have no exposure or contact so far with anyone from the public, preventing the local transmission of the disease.
She said they were hoping that the six would turn out negative in their second repeat RT-PCR tests next week.
As of Wednesday, Maasim has already recorded eight Covid-19 cases, the highest among the seven municipalities of Sarangani, which has so far confirmed a total of 17 infections and three recoveries.
Meanwhile, in South Cotabato, a report from the Integrated Provincial Health Office said the lone additional Covid-19 case was a 36-year-old woman who arrived from Manila last July 2.
It said the patient is currently under close observation by health workers in an undisclosed “Ligtas” isolation facility.
The seven new cases in Sarangani and South Cotabato were among the eight reported in Soccksargen on Tuesday night.
The other case was from North Cotabato province.
The DOH-12 said the confirmed Covid-19 cases in the region have reached 110, with 53 recoveries and two deaths.
South Cotabato posted the most number of infections with 33, followed by Sultan Kudarat with 22, Cotabato City with 19, Sarangani with 17, North Cotabato with 13, and this city with six. (By Allen Estabillo)
