Faithful urged to pray for cops, soldiers in Covid-19 fight

THE MILITARY Ordinariate of the Philippines (MOP) on Thursday urged the faithful to continue praying for the safety and welfare of law enforcers, particularly those who were infected by coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“We are praying for the police officers and those who got infected by the virus, not only the police, also the military and the other branch of service under the Military Ordinariate,” MOP Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio said in an interview over church-run Radio Veritas.
He added that government forces can be considered as front-liners as they are part of the government’s fight against Covid-19 by strictly implementing safety health protocols and other guidelines to effectively put a stop to the spread of the deadly virus.
“They are ready to help stop Covid-19 by implementing protocols, health protocols…” Florencio added.
The government has deployed more soldiers and police officers to enforce quarantine protocols as Metro Manila and the neighboring provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal reverted to the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from August 4 to 18.
Based on the latest data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service as of Wednesday, there are a total of 2,347 PNP personnel positive for Covid-19.
Of the number, there are 1,384 recoveries and 11 deaths.
The MOP supervises the spiritual well-being of personnel from the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology at Veterans Memorial Medical Center personnel. (By Ferdinand Patinio)
