ZAMBOANGA MAYOR Beng Climaco commended the Bureau of Customs for surpassing its target collection by P1.36 billion in 2020 despite the slowdown in economic activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Climaco, who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council, lauded the efforts of the Bureau of Customs during the RPOC’s virtual meeting recently. The Bureau of Customs thanked Climaco for her unwavering support to the government’s anti-smuggling campaign.
The Bureau of Customs, headed by Sigmundfreud Barte Jr., said they had collected over P5.17 billion last year and even surpassed their target collection of P3.8 billion. He said the Bureau of Customs collected more than P2.18 billion in taxes from seized contraband from cigarettes, sugar and rice and even fake revenue stamps, among others.
Barte said they also destroyed some P1.96 billion worth of smuggled cigarettes. (Zamboanga Post)
