THE NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will soon release the results of its probe into the February 24 shootout between Quezon City police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Tuesday he is confident the NBI will be fair and impartial, as it has always been.
"I suppose it will submit its report in the next few days," Guevarra told newsmen.
The separate investigation by a joint join panel formed by the Philippine National Police and PDEA will no longer proceed.
President Rodrigo Duterte designated the NBI as the sole agency to investigate the shooting at the parking lot of a fastfood chain along Commonwealth Avenue.
Two policemen and two PDEA agents were killed in the alleged misencounter between Quezon City Police District's District (QCPD) Special Operations Unit and PDEA's Special Enforcement Service.
Four PDEA agents were also wounded.
Both camps claimed they were doing drug buy-busts in the area.
QCPD operatives said it was too late when they found out they were transacting with PDEA agents. (By Benjamin Pulta)
