Tight guarding in Zambo

‘People continue to sneak into city without medical requirements’

SECURITY FORCES intensified their efforts to prevent the entry of people from other provinces without the necessary documents, especially the RT-PCR test result which shows them negative for the deadly Covid-19 disease.

Mayor Beng Climaco ordered the police and military authorities to guard the porous land and coastal borders following many attempts by people without the medical requirements and other documents to illegally enter Zamboanga.

Policemen and soldiers have been deployed in coastal barangays and wharves to thwart any attempts by people to illegally sneak into the city.

Climaco’s order came after the City Health Office recorded an increase in Covid-19 cases the past weeks. Just recently, policemen patrolling Barangay Labuan intercepted a group of people on a motorized fishing boat trying to dock.

The passengers, who came all the way from Zamboanga del Norte’s Sibuco town, had no necessary travel or medical requirements. They were all told to return to their place of origin.

In recent weeks, border guards also intercepted people trying to cross into Zamboanga City from Zamboanga Sibugay province without any travel or medical requirements.

Climaco praised the efforts of the police and military and lauded them for their hardwork. “Thank you so much for your hardwork and vigilance,” she said.

The mayor also regularly joins security patrol at before sunrise and visiting different police and military checkpoints.

However, despite the implementation of the strict health protocols, police continue to apprehend hundreds of violators every day in different barangays. Most of them were apprehended during curfew hours and followed by those who do not wear face shield and face mask, and for not observing physical distancing in public places, including motorcycle drivers who carry more than one passenger or not among his household members.

“We need to follow the health protocols, otherwise we may not be able to prevent or minimize or even stop the spread of Covid-19. This is for everybody’s safety,” Climaco said. (Zamboanga Post)
