THE OFFICE of the Civil Registrar in Zamboanga City urged parents, especially members of the indigenous community, to register their children as it celebrates the “Civil Registration Month.”
The Office of the City Civil Registrar under Atty. Eric Elias in
collaboration with other agencies spearheaded the celebration. Elias also
lauded the support of the Zamboanga City Social Welfare and Development Office from
the Community Family Services, Inc. (CFSI) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Since 2013, CFSI was able to assist 3,679 Sama Bajau individuals in acquiring birth registration while 2,719 were also provided Security Paper copies from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
With the theme “Improving Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Implementation Strategies through Digital Transformation,” the celebration was highlighted by the birth registration for residents in Barangay Kasanyangan and the neighboring areas.
Local tribal chieftains, community leaders, youth advocates, and community representatives from the Barangays Kasanyangan and Rio Hondo also attended the event. (Aira Tose)
