3 men injured in Zambo speedboat fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three people were injured after their speedboat caught fire during a trial run off the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga.

Photos released by the Philippine Coast Guard show the burning speedboat manned by 3 people off Mariki village in Zamboanga City.

The trio, who all suffered first degree burns in their body, jumped off the boat and were rescued by their relatives, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.

It said the accident occurred Thursday afternoon off Mariki village. The Coast Guard said it provided first aid to the victims after responding to the emergency.

“The rescue team responded to the event instantly, using three fire extinguishers to put out the fire in the speedboat while also transporting the victims to safety,” it said.

“Upon investigation, the ill-fated speedboat departed from Tres Marias in Baliwasan Seaside village in Zamboanga City with three persons onboard to conduct a sea trial when they noticed that a fire occurred in between the fuel tank and battery,” it added. (Mindanao Examiner)
