Complaints mount vs. Rural Transit Mindanao

DIPOLOG CITY – Small traders have criticized the Rural Transit Mindanao Inc. for charging exorbitant fees for cargoes and even parcels.

One sardine manufacturer in Dipolog City said she was being charged P200 for a box of 24 bottles of homemade Spanish sardines bound for Zamboanga City. Previous shipment, she paid P120 per box.

In Zamboanga City, a bus conductor and his driver were charging P500 for a parcel of 80 copies of newspapers bound for Cotabato City. The fee was 50% of the passenger fare from Zamboanga to Cotabato – the latest route that the bus firm has opened.

The bus conductor and his driver insisted the company imposes the fees for all cargoes and parcels.

Traders urged the Zamboanga City and Dipolog City councils and the local governments, including the Integrated Bus Terminal management in both cities to look into their complaints. (Mindanao Examiner)
