Cops net P4.5-M marijuana, high-value target in Baguio sting

POLICE OFFICERS  arrested a high-value individual (HVI) and seized around PHP4.5 million worth of high-grade marijuana in a drug operation in Baguio City.

In a statement on Sunday, Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said the unnamed suspect, a 20-year-old male resident of Barangay Ampucao in Itogon, Benguet, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Burnham-Legarda-Kisad.

The suspect yielded three elongated packages wrapped in brown packing tape, containing dried leaves suspected to be high-grade marijuana (kush) weighing around three kilograms and other non-drug evidence.

“The PDEG's successful operation demonstrates the power of strategic law enforcement in combating illegal drugs. Families now have one less threat to worry about as their neighborhoods become safer. The agency's tireless dedication ensures that the public can live in peace and security,” Matta said.

The arrested suspect and non-drug evidence are currently under the custody of the Special Operation Unit of Cordillera Administrative Region.

The drug evidence has been turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit in La Trinidad, Benguet for laboratory examination. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
