ZAMBOANGA CITY – A septuagenarian man was killed and two children were reported missing in a fire that broke out Monday on a neighborhood that left over 3,000 people homeless in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, Mayor Beng Climaco said.
She said the remains of 75-year old Solomon Albuso was found in his house in Tumaga village. Other reports said one child was also killed in the fire.
Climaco said fire investigators have begun a probe into the conflagration that left at least 300 families homeless.
Most of the fire victims were urban poor members, who are dependent on government housing programs.
Climaco has ordered social workers to look into the needs of the fire victims at the Caridad Murga Progressive Homeowners Association. She said the homeless villagers were temporarily brought to the Tumaga Elementary School. (E. Dumaboc)
