3 killed, 6 wounded in shootout in Zamboanga town

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three people were killed and 6 more wounded in a shootout Tuesday between policemen and armed men in Zamboanga Sibugay province in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the policemen, led by Superintendent William Gadayan, were serving a warrant to search the house of a former town councillor in Talusan when gunmen opened fire on the lawmen and sparking a firefight. And when the smoke cleared, three people lay dead – one of them the former town official Kiking Lim.
Police said Edris Mohammad, a village councilman; and a civilian Nashra Mohammad were also slain in the shootout. The fighting wounded police officer Noriel Laurieta and 5 people who were caught up in middle of the shooting.
The wounded have been identified by the police as Fatima Ayesha, a minor; Lydia Mohammad, Albaina Mohammad, Kisna Mohammad and Noriba Amsani.
Police Officer Jorjan Tolorio said several weapons have been recovered from the house of Lim and Mohammad. He said among the weapons seized by policemen were five automatic rifles, one 12-gauge shotgun, and a .45-caliber pistol. It was not immediately known whether the weapons were licensed or not.
