ZAMBOANGA CITY – A navy man was wounded after motorcycle gunmen shot him while trying to help another man who had been attacked by the duo in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Monday.
The gunmen escaped after the weekend shooting and leaving the two men wounded in the village of San Jose. The navy did not release the name of the wounded enlisted man, but said he was while helping Hernan Oranolia, who just came from a carnival and carrying some P40,000, according to the navy.
The attacker was believed to have shot Oranolia because of the money he had been carrying in a bag.
The serviceman was on a motorcycle and heading home from his duty when he saw the gunmen attacked Oranolia. The attackers sped off after the shooting, but returned for the bag when they saw the serviceman and also shot him several times and then fled.
The wounded men were rushed to hospital by another serviceman who responded to the shooting. The identities of the attackers remain unknown. Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga and there had been a spate of shootings in the past months. (Mindanao Examiner)
