ZAMBOANGA
CITY – Motorcycle gunmen ambushed a policeman who was returning home
from his duty early Monday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines,
officials said.
Officials
said PO3 Michael Tan was driving his motorcycle along Veterans Avenue
when attacked by assailants. Tan, a warrant server at a police station
in Santa Maria village, was killed instantly.
Police
investigators recovered bullet casings fired from a pistol. No
individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack and police
said an investigation into the motive of the murder is going on. Tan
also served with the Drug Enforcement Team of the local police force
before being assigned at the Warrant Section.
Gun
attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga where hired killers actively
operate. There had been dozens of unresolved murders in the past years
and many of the crimes were linked to hired killers. (Mindanao
