ZAMBOANGA CITY – At least 7 people were killed and over five dozen others injured when a truck full of passengers overturned Wednesday afternoon while travelling at high speed in Pagadian City in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur.
The truck also rammed 2 other vehicles parked on the side of the road before crashing on its side.
Civilians in the village of Dao helped pull the wounded from the truck while others took turns in bringing the injured to the side of the highway while ambulances ferried the victims to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center.
The truck was ferrying mostly poor beneficiaries of the government’s Conditional Cash Transfer Program also known as Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program and on its way to the bank in downtown Pagadian from Cogonan village when the mishap occurred.
Police were investigating the deadly accident. The names of the casualties were not immediately available. (Mindanao Examiner)
