WUTH THE spread of rumors about a mysterious disease originating from mainland China, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health Dr. Abdullah Dumama stresses that there is no need to panic.
“I’m calling upon every one that there is no need for undue panic and we shouldn’t be anxious or scared,” Dumama said.
This reminder came after a mysterious viral pneumonia-like disease has been reported in Wuhan, China which has symptoms composed of cough, joint pains, colds, and fever. It is similar to SARS which was recorded to be an epidemic in 2002-2003,
Presently, there are no travel bans in place but the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ), in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH), are closely monitoring airports, seaports and all other terminals of travel.
“There’s no travel ban yet but there’s an order already by the Bureau of Quarantine dated January 4 saying we have to be on alert in closely monitoring seaports and airports,” Dumama said.
Currently, there are have been no recorded cases of travelers or individuals who have been showing symptoms of the said mysterious disease.
“We have no reported cases of this mystery viral pneumonia that is happening in China now,” Dumama said. (By Kevin Caro)
