DAVAO CITY – A policewoman was arrested in a
drug sting operation in Davao City in southern Philippines, officials said on Saturday.
Officials said Senior Master Sergeant Shiela
Bande was arrested Friday after dealing with undercover agents.
Regional police chief Brig. Gen. Filmore
Escobal praised police units involved in the sting, calling it a “successful
buy-bust operation.”
Among those involved in the operation were
the Police Regional Intelligence Division, Davao City Police Office,
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
and the Mindanao Area Police Office.
Escobal said the 43-year old cop, assigned at
the Philippine Bomb Information Center, was long under surveillance after
several drug pushers arrested by the police pointed to Bande as their alleged
supplier.
“Her assignment with the Directorate of Intelligence made her a hard
target for the operation, yet, the perseverance of our police and PDEA
operatives paid off. Ang pagkahuli kay PSMS Bande ay nagpapakita lamang na
intensibo ang aming enforcement against illegal drugs at internal cleansing sa
mga anay sa aming hanay,” said Escobal.
“This incident is a constant reminder and a
warning to anyone, even within our ranks, that we in PRO (Police Regional
Office) 11 is not slowing down in our campaign against illegal drugs. We remain
relentless in running after criminals and those PNP personnel involve in illegal
drug trade,” he added.
Bande, a resident of Davao City, did not give
any statement to the press. (Mindanao Examiner)
