ZAMBOANGA CITY - Business owners who failed to renew or register their establishments after the January 20 deadline set by City Hall will have to pay a fine of 25% and additional 2% on monthly payables.
Since late last year, Mayor Beng Climaco repeatedly reminded business owners and traders and those planning to put a business here to prepare early their documents and requirements for business permits to avoid delay in renewal of permits and licenses.
Climaco also streamlined the system of the Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) which puts all government agencies involved in the renewal and registration of all kinds of business permits and licenses in one venue, and process applications in 2 steps: apply and pay and release of business permit for new registration and verify and pay and release of business permit for renewal.
She said all necessary documents must be complied with by business owners. “It is very important to comply with all the necessary documents for easy processing of business permits and licenses and this is to ensure that businesses in our city are all legitimate and not bogus and paying government taxes religiously,” Climaco said.
Many business establishments have failed to get their permits and licenses mainly due to lack of requirements despite repeated reminders from City Hall to comply with the documents needed.
Climaco put up the BOSS at Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar in an effort to make it easier for business owners to secure their permits and licenses and to hasten the procedure of securing business in the city.
The BOSS had these agencies under it - the City Treasurer’s Office, City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office, City Engineer’s Office, City Health Office, City Veterinarian Office, City Administrator’s Office, Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources, City Agriculturist Office, City Tourism office, Bureau of Fire Protection, among others.
Zamboanga continues to enjoy a strong economy as influx of trade and investments add to the already robust business climate here. Proof of this is the steady flow of investors to Zamboanga, a major trading hub in southern Philippines, because of the efforts of the local government in making this southern port city business-friendly.
