NORTH COTABATO – Police arrested 5 people - who posed
as media members and employees of the Games and Amusement Board – after they
allegedly tried to extort money from a cockpit operator in North Cotabato’s
Magpet town, officials said Monday.
Officials said the men also introduced themselves
as media members from T-Radio Davao when they asked P25,000 from the cockpit
operator.
They were identified by the police as Dominador
Turqueza Bancal, 50; who claimed to be
T-Radio station manager; Michael Abonales Peralta, 46, who is allegedly the
radio station program manager; Darwin Aceberos Delen, 48; Pedro Jagoros Paña,
44; and Michael Sanao Naciongayo, 43, all residents of Davao City.
The men were arrested in an entrapment operation
after the cockpit owner sought the help of the police, said Major Judjie
Barotas, the town’s chief of police. He said several cockpit operators in
Kidapawan City also complained that the group extorted P35,000 from each of
them.
Officials from the Games and Amusement Board and
T-Radio Davao have denied the arrested men were employees. The men have yet to
issue a statement against all allegations against them. (Rhoderick Beñez)
