Drug-crazed suspect stabs dead teen in Bacolod City

A 10th-grade student of VMA Global College was stabbed and killed by a drug user outside the school campus in Barangay Sum-ag here on Wednesday.

The victim, Alexis Genise Jr., 16, passed away around 4 p.m., some four hours after he was rushed to the hospital.
Police reports said Genise just came from class and was with his classmates near the school entrance when suspect Ray Jan Carmelotes, 27, attacked him using a kitchen knife shortly before noon.
Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office, said Carmelotes is known as a bum, who admitted using shabu.
Investigation of Police Station 9 showed the suspect stabbed Genise without apparent reason. The victim bore several wounds after Carmelotes stabbed him several times.
The suspect, who was arrested immediately, is detained at the station’s custodial facility. He is undergoing an inquest for murder.
While being interviewed at the station on Thursday, Carmelotes was barely coherent as he talked about climbing the wall inside the comfort room, believing he can escape. This led the police personnel on-duty to handcuff him. He was photographed browsing through a small Bible inside his cell.
Genise’s grandmother, Myrna Tuario, 63, said her grandson was a diligent student, who dreamed of finishing his studies and finding a job to put his elder sibling to school.
Tuario added that Genise just stayed home when not in school, and had not been in trouble.
“The suspect said what he did was a just a joke,” she said in a radio interview.
Genise’s father is a tricycle driver while his mother is a utility worker in a company in Metro Manila. (By Nanette Guadalquiver)
