AT LEAST six former rebels (FRs) have received financial assistance worth P147,000 from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
Governor Victor J. Yu, chairman of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) along with Provincial Director Mohamad Taha Arakama handed the checks during the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council, Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) on Friday at Balay Bisaya, Provincial Government Center here.
Yu said the implementation of E-CLIP demonstrates the Duterte administration’s commitment in pursuing peace and development in our country.
The E-CLIP offers a complete package of assistance to FRs as well as their family members, who have surrendered to the government and totally abandoned their armed struggle to become productive members of our society.
Yu said the government is persistent and determined to address the insurgency problem in the country through good governance.
Provincial Director Arakama said the government has implemented the E-CLIP program to encourage FRs to return to the folds of law.
He explained those who will avail the program and surrender their firearms will avail the firearm remuneration assistance and livelihood assistance depending upon the livelihood program that the FRs will submit to DILG.
Arakama urged more rebels to surrender while incentives through the E-CLIP are still available to improve the quality of their lives.
“Kami po ay nanawagan sa mga nalalabing NPA na nasa bukid na bumaba, mag-surrender at ibigay ang kanilang mga sandata upang magkaroon ng comfortable, secured and better life dahil mas pinatindi ng administrasyon ni Presidente Duterte ang pagpapatupad ng EO No. 70,” Aracama appealed.
(We are appealing to remnants of the NPA who are still in the hinterlands to surrender and lay down their arms so that they will be given a comfortable, secured and better lives because the administration of President Duterte intensified the implementation of EO No. 70).
Aka Tingol, a former member of Front Committee Kara of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) expressed his gratitude to the government for accepting them to the E-CLIP.
“Dako kaayo akong pasalamat sa gobyerno pinaagi kang Presidente Duterte tungod sa pagdawat nila sa amoa nga mga FRs nga mibalik sa sabakan sa balaod ug paghatag kanamo ug hinabang pinansyal. Ang hinabang nga among nadawat karon makatabang kini ug suporta sa among mga pamilya,” the 54-year old Aka Tingol said.
(I am very much grateful to the government thru President Duterte for accepting us- the FRs to return to the mainstream society and for giving us financial assistance. The assistance that we received will help us support our families.)
“We have proved that the government is really sincere in implementing the program of our President,” Aka Tingol concluded.(By Gideon C. Corgue)
