Zamboanga tops anti-polio campaign in Region 9

THE SECOND round of Zamboanga’s anti-polio campaign was successful, according to Mayor Beng Climaco who said over 112,000 children below 5 years old were vaccinated.

Zamboanga City achieved the highest number of children vaccinated in Western Mindanao followed by Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte with 107.9% and Pagadian City at 107.8%.

Dubbed as “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio,” Climaco said the City Health Office under Dr Dulce Miravite reported that the campaign which began January 20 until February 2 overshot its target by more than 9%.

“The second round of the Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio for monovalent oral polio vaccine or Mopv conducted January 20-February 2 vaccinated a total of 112,571 children below 5 years old with an accomplishment rate of 109.4%,” she said, quoting Miravite’s report.

Climaco recognized the efforts and hard work of health workers, including volunteers as well as partner agencies for the successful implementation of the anti-polio program.

She urged parents and guardians who failed to have their children vaccinated to take advantage of the next round of anti-polio campaign starting on February 17 until February 23, and another on March 23 up to April 4. (Zamboanga Post)
