ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police were looking for a man who left a
bag outside a Catholic Church in the southern Philippine city of Zamboanga, prompting
a bomb scare late Sunday.
Alert villagers discovered the abandoned bag and thinking it
contained a bomb quickly called the police.
“It was a bag containing
carpentry tools. It is probably owned by a carpenter,” Sergeant Teofilo Viray
told reporters.
Security is tight in Zamboanga, especially in places of
worship, and public areas following the lifting of martial law in the restive
region where security forces are battling communist rebels and pro-ISIS
militants. (Zamboanga Post)
