PERSONS UNDER monitoring (PUMs) are strongly ordered to follow the 14-day home quarantine as thousands have been recorded to have arrived in Western Visayas prior to the community quarantine imposed in Metro Manila to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Data released by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) through the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) on March 16 showed that the region has 3,673 PUMs.
Aklan has 1,137; Antique, 244; Capiz, 237; Guimaras, 107; Iloilo, 1,042; Negros Occidental, 554; Bacolod City, 122 and Iloilo City has 230 PUMs.
“The increase was attributed to the DOH Decision Tool as of March 11 that Manila is considered as an area with local transmission and that a person who comes from Manila will be managed as PUM if with no signs and symptoms, and PUI (patient under investigation) if with signs/ symptoms,” said DOH-CHD 6 regional director Marlyn W. Convocar in a press conference via Facebook Live on Monday said.
With the high number of PUMs, Convocar said that they should “strictly observe the quarantine procedures to avoid the possible spread of the virus”.
She added that by quarantine, their movement of the traveler is limited, likewise, they have to be isolated as well.
Meantime, the regional director said that the region has no confirmed Covid-19 cases as of the said date. However, it has 71 recorded PUIs from January 1 to March 16.
Of the said number, 43 were tested negative, 23 are waiting for results of their laboratory tests, four are "not done" with tests while one has a non-Covid strain of the respiratory disease.
Those with "not done status" are PUIs with mild signs and symptoms and are not elderly. There is no need for their specimen to be collected but they have to observe the 14-day quarantine period.
The data showed that 44 of the PUIs have been discharged, 16 are still admitted while 11 are outpatient. (By Perla Lena)
