Mayor Beng Climaco and Dr Joshua Brillantes, assistant regional director
of the Department of Health, both confirmed the test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, or RITM, of the 57-year old woman listed as “person under investigation,” or PUI.
The woman, whose name was not released to the public, was buried
immediately. She died over the weekend even before the result of the medical
test could come out, although the woman was admitted in private hospital where
she succumbed to acute respiratory failure, among other complications.
“The 57-year old person under
investigation, who died March 21, 2020 is negative for Covid-19 based on test
results from the RITM. Let us continue to pray for the eternal repose of her
soul and may God comfort her family as they grieve for their loss. We warn the
public against public disclosure of sensitive data of any and all PUIs and PUMs
or Covid-19 patients as this is a violation of the Data Privacy Act and
violators can be penalized under the law,” Climaco said.
The woman, officials said, had travelled to the United Kingdom and came
home in January and was rushed to hospital after showing symptoms of the virus
and considered PUI. She was also diabetic, according to Dr Dulce Amor Miravite,
head of the City Health Office.
Zamboanga now has over 2 dozen PUIs, however, 11 of them were tested
negative and the others are still waiting for the results of their examination
from RITM. More than 500 people are also being monitored, or PUMs, by health
authorities.
A PUI is a person that shows symptoms of cough, colds and fever with a
travel or contact history to countries or person that is affected with Covid
19, and being admitted in the hospital for observation.
On
other hand, a PUM is a person with travel and contact history to countries
or person that is affected with Covid 19 but not displayed any symptoms and is
advised to undergo a 14-day self-quarantine at home to be monitored by health
workers.
The Philippines has more than 500 Covid-19 cases with over 30 deaths and
the number of infections is steadily rising, according to latest DOH
data. (Zamboanga Post)
