PAGADIAN
CITY – Two positive Covid-19 cases in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern
Philippines have recovered after a second test showed the duo negative from the
deadly coronavirus disease, provincial health authorities said Monday.
The
duo, a 52-year old man in Labangan town and a 62-year old woman in the capital
city of Pagadian, are expected to be discharged from the hospital. Both
patients had travelled history in Manila and returned home separately on
commercial plane on March 14 and March 8, respectively.
No other details were made available by health authorities,
except their RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase–polymerase
chain reaction) test results showed negative for the Covid-19.
The
Covid-19 RT-PCR test is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain
reaction test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) in upper and lower respiratory specimens collected
from individuals suspected of Covid-19.
A seven-year old boy in the town of Dumalinao in Zamboanga
del Sur province was also tested positive for the coronavirus disease after
returning with his family from Iligan City. He is the 3rd to have
been infected with the deadly respiratory disease in Zamboanga del Sur and is
now in hospital.
The
boy’s family is now under home quarantine. It was unclear how the boy contracted the disease. (Zamboanga
