Basilan politician killed

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Gunmen shot dead a former vice mayor of Tipo-Tipo town in a daring attack in Isabela City in the southern Philippine province of Basilan, police said.

Musiddik Mande, who ran in last year’s midterm elections and lost, was murdered at dusk Tuesday while on his way home in Sumagdang village. 

Police said Mande was shot in the head. The assailants escaped on a motorcycle after the killing.

The motive of the killing is still unknown and no individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack which occurred despite a strict security in the capital city.

Police said it is investigating the murder of the politician who was immediately buried by his family. Basilan is one 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region in Mindanao. (Zamboanga Post)
