ZAMBOANGA
CITY – The local government has ordered late Thursday the partial lifting of
the lockdown of a neighborhood in village of Tetuan where a 30-year old woman
is tested positive for the new coronavirus.
Barangay
Chairman Walmart Atilano said portion of the neighborhood will remain under
lockdown as part of quarantine efforts to prevent the spread of the deadly
respiratory disease. He said only the lockdown along Don Alfaro Street will
only be limited to several blocks where the woman’s family lives.
“Mayor
Beng (Climaco) has ordered the partial lifting of the lockdown and the area
where the woman’s family lives will remain under lockdown. She also issued an
executive order wherein all senior citizens and minors are strongly advised to
stay inside the house 24/7 because they are most vulnerable to the disease,”
Atilano said during the distribution of food packs to residents in the zone.
Climaco
ordered the distribution of food aid to residents and Atilano led barangay
tanods and workers in the house-to-house ration of rice, canned goods, noodles and even vitamins.
The
local government’s food assistance program through the City Social Welfare and
Development Office began early this week and has already served hundreds of
families in different barangays to help augment food packs distributed by
barangay officials.
President
Rodrigo Duterte - through the Department of the Interior and Local Government –
ordered barangay officials to provide food aid to residents.
Climaco
continues to supervise the repacking of food as well as the distribution of
personal protective equipment to health and social workers and medical frontliners,
including barangay officials to protect them from contracting the virus.
The
mayor also expressed appreciation and thanked all those who donated rice and
canned goods and other necessities for residents, especially the poor, to augment
what the local government is giving out.
And
to help residents with their supply of provision, Climaco said the local
government through the City Agriculturist Office and the Department
of Agriculture, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and National Food Authority
launched the “Kadiwa on Wheels” or Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa
para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita where local can buy fresh fruits and
vegetables at farm gate prices, including fresh and dried fish, and fresh cut
flowers.
“This is a joint effort to help
provide and make basic needs accessible to our people while the Enhanced
Community Quarantine is enforced in the city,” Climaco said. (Zamboanga Post)
