THE PROVINCIAL government of Davao de Oro strongly denounced the attack of the members of the Abu Sayyaf group (ASG) in Sulu on Friday, April 17, killing 11 soldiers and wounding 14 others.
In a statement released in social media, the provincial government described the attack as cruel and horrendous act as the country is still facing the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“It is so cruel of them to do it in the time where the entire country is anxious and distressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Such horrendous act is the last thing we need,” the statement said.
The statement added, “In this time where we need to be more human, benevolent, and compassionate, they chose to do the exact opposite. It is appalling, unacceptable, and unforgivable.”
The provincial government also extended their condolences to the bereaved families of these soldiers, saying, “Their heroism will remain our memories and rest assured, their efforts will not go in vain. Their extraordinary courage will be forever remembered.”
According to reports, the attack was the second encounter between the government troops and ASG members following the April 16 confrontation that wounded three soldiers. (By Michael L. Uy)
