DOLE releases P9.84-M aid to quarantine-affected workers

THE DEEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12 (Soccsksargen) has released some PHP9.84 million in financial assistance to private workers who have been affected by the implementation of heightened quarantine measures due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) threat.

DOLE-12 Director Sisinio Cano said Tuesday the assistance was directly received by some 1,969 workers in parts of the region who qualified for the agency’s Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP).

Cano said the beneficiaries were employees of 151 companies and business establishments that applied for the CAMP subsidy.

“These were private companies or businesses that implemented flexible work arrangements or temporarily stopped their operations because of the Covid-19 situation,” he said in a radio interview.

Under the program, qualified workers will receive a one-time financial assistance of PHP5,000 each from the national government, through the DOLE.

Cano said the funds were directly released to the workers through the M. Lhuillier money remittance service to prevent them from flocking to DOLE field offices.

He said the strategy complies with the guidelines on social and physical distancing set by the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging and Infectious Diseases.

Cano said they continue to receive and process applications from other affected companies and workers and expect to get more applications in the coming days due to the expected extension of the enhanced community quarantine being implemented by local government units until the end of the month.

“Rest assured that we are to serve and help ease the burden of our affected workers as a result of this pandemic,” he added. (By Richelyn Gubalani
