Mayor Beng Climaco announced this after saying the patient, who is a resident of Sinunuc village, was tested anew and results showed he is now negative for Covid-19 infection. “Great news on Easter Sunday. ZP-01, Zamboanga City’s first confirmed Covid case, has tested negative and has been discharged today,” she said.

Climaco also praised the medical team who took care and aided the patient throughout his isolation at a hospital here after being screened for the virus on March 16 when he showed mild symptoms of the respiratory disease.

“Our warmest felicitations to ZP-01 and our sincerest gratitude to the medical team who took care and aided ZP-01 on his recovery. With ZP-01’s recovery, we pray and look forward to the same positive outcomes for our other cases. Let us continue working together to win the battle against Covid,” she said.

The patient returned here from Manila on March 13 on a Philippine Airline flight PR 2993. Following his first Covid-19 test results, Climaco immediately ordered health authorities to trace other passengers and to place them under home quarantine to prevent the spread of the virus.
Zamboanga has four more local Covid-19 cases.

The local government imposed the quarantine last month to stop the spread of the virus that has now infected over 4,000 people in the country and had already killed more than 200, mostly in metropolitan areas in Luzon which is now in total lockdown.

The Covid-19, now a global pandemic, broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and quickly spread to over 100 countries with China recording over 81,000 infections and more than 3,200 deaths.

The local government has imposed a curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Shops, offices and schools are also closed, except for pharmacies, supermarkets, grocery stores, markets, bakeries, medical clinics, delivery services, water stations, food and medical manufacturing and processing plants, money shops, commercial banks, utilities and telecommunication facilities and some restaurants which are strictly selling only food-to-go. (Zamboanga Post)
