TWO RESIDENTS of Talisay City who died due to illnesses have been found to be coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) positive, Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. said on Wednesday.
Gullas said the two patients – PT15, a 62-year-old male from Sitio Holy Child in Barangay Tabunok and PT16, a 94-year-old male from Sitio Atisan, Barangay Cansojong – were added to the list of new Covid-19 confirmed cases in Talisay City on Tuesday but “their results came after they have passed away.”
He said that PT15 was admitted to the Talisay District Hospital (TDH) on May 13 due to a heart attack but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
As a matter of protocol, hospital workers took swab samples from PT15 on the same day he died.
PT16, meanwhile, was brought to the hospital due to his prostate problem on May 12 and hospital workers took swab samples from him on the same day he was admitted. However, he died on May 13.
Gullas said the death certificates of both patients declared that the cause of their demise was not coronavirus-related.
But when the swab test results came out on Tuesday, PT15 and PT16 were included in the positive count for Talisay City, bringing the total Covid-19 cases in the city to 16.
Gullas said in a message sent to the Philippine News Agency that both patients were already buried.
“We are meeting now (Wednesday) regarding the closure (of their respective places) and how many are affected,” he said, adding that city health authorities are now contact tracing relatives and persons who came in close contact with the two patients.
They will be transferred to a facility for isolation, he added.
He said he will call on TDH officials to coordinate protocols in dealing with the two new cases whose results came late which may have affected containment measures,
