A LABOR group on Tuesday hailed the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for hiring 100 new medical technologists to help in its fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
"We congratulate the Philippine Coast Guard for hiring health workers as regular officers to boost its workforce in the fight against Covid 19,” Federation of Free Workers (FFW)-Women Network president Ma. Victoria Bellosillo said in a statement.
The PCG said the recruitment is urgent and they will be accepting applicants on top of the newly-recruited 55 health workers.
It is looking for registered medical technologists to augment the capacity of the PCG-Medical Service amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Qualified applicants will be hired immediately as regular Coast Guard officers. They will bear the rank of probationary ensign and will receive a gross monthly salary of PHP45,000.
Bellosillo also urged the Department of Health (DOH) to hire these workers to help augment its medical personnel as the country continues to fight Covid-19.
“FFW looks at the DOH to do the same -- hire medical workers in its workforce as regular DOH employees not as 'contract of service' individuals or mere volunteers," she said.
The group called on the Health department to regularize the contract of service (COS) health workers that it recently hired in compliance with Section 23 of Republic Act 11223 or the Universal Health Care Law.
The law states “to ensure continuity in the provision of health programs and services, all health professionals and health care workers shall be guaranteed permanent employment and competitive salaries.”
FFW also urged the Civil Service Commission to help DOH in the regularization of its COS and volunteer health workers.
