DAVAO CITY – Communist insurgents attacked a group of soldiers and
killing one of them in President Rodrigo Duterte’s own turf in Davao City in
southern Philippines.
PFC. Roy Recreo, a member of the 16th Infantry Battalion, was slain and 2 others wounded in the fighting that broke out in the village called Paradise Embac.
The clash erupted Friday, but both the Eastern Mindanao Command and
the 10th Infantry Division did not release any report of the firefight
up to press time.
The local government also did not release any statement on the
fighting.
Just last month, New People’s Army also ambushed a military
truck and wounded 2 soldiers in Davao City’s Malabog village in Paquibato
district. The April 23 ambush targeted members of the same battalion.
The 1003rd Infantry
Brigade said the soldiers were sent to the area after receiving reports of the
presence of rebels in Paquibato, a known lair of the communist group which
has been fighting for many decades now for the establishment of a separate
state.
Duterte
previously threatened to impose martial law if rebel attacks continue across
the country, but the NPA did not stop its offensive with communist leader Jose
Maria Sison ordering more assaults on military targets. (Mindanao Examiner)
