OWWA releases P16-M cash aid to OFWs in W. Visayas

THE OVERSEAS  Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Region 6 (Western Visayas) on Friday reported that over PHP16 million cash aid has been released to 1,639 beneficiaries under the Department of Labor and Employment-Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (DOLE-AKAP) program.   

On a Facebook post, the agency said its office in Western Visayas revealed that 1,639 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have received their PHP10,000 (USD200) financial assistance amounting to PHP16.39 million, as of 6 p.m. Thursday.
The money was released through a money remittance center.
The OWWA said there are 2,008 approved applications while 11,351 applications are in process.
It added that 1,827 applications have been endorsed to DOLE-Regional Office 6 for releasing.
The OWWA-6 also reminded would-be beneficiaries to make sure that the documents they will submit are correct to avoid delay in the evaluation of their applications.
It said applicants should bring the following documents for them to be qualified for the cash aid:
-passport copy/travel documents (make sure that the copies clear and the face and the complete name are visible);
-proof of arrival - any of the following - airline ticket, (arrival in the Philippines), boarding pass, arrival stamp in the passport, disembarkation in Seaman Book, Immigration sticker upon arrival in the passport, arrival stickers on their luggage.
Applicants are also asked to present proof of overseas employment (any of the following) - verified employment contract, work permit/visa, residence IDs, Overseas Employment Certificate/Balik Manggagawa exemption showing the validity, Employment Offer/Certification from agency and service record.
For those who are not employed, they are required to submit proof of loss of employment (any of the following) - Termination letter/Notice (e-mail from agency/employer), Cancellation of engagement, Travel ban advisories, self undertaking (written with signature - on a clean sheet of paper) - the applicant should state his/her present condition due to Covid-19, his/her contract was not processed and he/she is already scheduled for deployment.
It said for applicants who have already submitted and have registered online at dole-akap.owwa.gov.ph, but have corrections and incomplete documents. They can appeal and email the documents to dole-akap.rwo6@owwa.gov.ph with Subject 'APPLICATION OF (Complete Name of OFW)'.
