Pangasinan starts mass testing at Covid-19 hotspots

THE PROVINCIAL  Health Office (PHO) on Tuesday started gathering swab samples from the suspect and probable cases as well as front-liners of the 16 areas with confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Pangasinan.

In a phone interview Tuesday, PHO chief, Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, said the provincial government targets 4,000 Covid-19 tests in the entire province.

She said the priorities are suspect cases with mild symptoms, probable cases that are elderly and have co-morbidity, high-risk pregnant women, and front-line workers.

The 16 areas considered as hotspots for Covid-19 are the towns of Bayambang, Sto. Tomas, Malasiqui, Basista,, Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Laoac, Rosales, Asingan, San Fabian, Lingayen, Urbiztondo, Infanta, and Bugallon; and the cities of Alaminos and Urdaneta.

Dagupan City is not included in the province’s mass testing as it is a chartered city which is also conducting its own mass testing.

There are two teams gathering swab samples in the towns and cities until Friday.

Pangasinan had not recorded new cases for Covid-19 from April 25 to May 5.

De Guzman said the four remaining Covid-19 cases in the province are in stable condition and are just waiting for the second swab test for them to be declared negative of the virus.

Governor Amado Espino III held a meeting on Monday with the province’s officials to tackle the current situation and preparations in case the province will be placed under general community quarantine on May 16. (By Hilda Austria
